How Many First Aiders?

Knowing how many first aiders you need for your workplace, you will need to answer these questions:

~ From your risk assessment, what degree of hazard is associated with your work activities?
~ How many employees do you have?

Low-hazard, eg offices, shops, libraries:
Fewer than 25 employees = At least one appointed person
25–50 employees = At least one first-aider trained in EFAW
More than 50 employees = At least one first-aider trained in FAW for every 100 employed (or part thereof)

Higher-hazard, eg light engineering and assembly work, food processing, warehousing, extensive work with dangerous machinery or sharp instruments, construction, chemical manufacture:
Fewer than 5 employees = At least one appointed person
5–50 employees = At least one first-aider trained in EFAW or FAW depending on the type of injuries that might occur
More than 50 employees = At least one first-aider trained in FAW for every 50 employed (or part thereof)

Do you have a child with ADHD or Autism?

Here are some practical tips for you to try, feel free to comment to see what you already tried and which ones you going to implement;

1. Visual Schedules: Create a visual schedule that outlines daily activities. Use pictures or icons to represent tasks, making it easier for your child to understand what to expect throughout the day.

2. Now and Next Cards: Use "now and next" cards to help your child transition between activities. For example, show a card for "now" (e.g., playtime) and a card for "next" (e.g., snack time) to provide clarity about what’s happening.

3. Consistent Routines: Establish a consistent daily routine. Having a predictable structure can help reduce anxiety and provide a sense of security for your child.

4. Use Timers: Implement timers to signal transitions between activities. Visual timers can be particularly effective, showing how much time is left for a task before moving on to the next.

5. Break Down Tasks: Divide larger tasks into smaller, manageable steps. Use checklists or step-by-step guides to help your child stay focused and feel accomplished as they complete each step.

6. Incorporate Breaks: Include scheduled breaks in your routine. Allow time for sensory breaks, physical activity, or quiet time to recharge, which can enhance focus and reduce overwhelm.

7. Prepare for Changes: If there will be changes to the routine, prepare your child in advance. Use visual aids or social stories to explain the changes and practice what to expect.

8. Set Clear Expectations: Clearly communicate expectations for each activity. Use simple language and visual cues to ensure your child understands what they need to do.

9. Use Positive Reinforcement: Encourage your child by acknowledging their efforts in following the schedule or routine. Positive reinforcement can motivate them to engage with the planning process.

10. Flexibility in Planning: While routines provide structure, it’s important to be flexible. Prepare your child for unexpected changes by discussing how to adapt when things don’t go as planned.

Is your child sensitive to noises?

Is your child sensitive to lights?

Is your child sensitive to certain textures?

Everyday environments can feel like a minefield. Sensory sensitivities can turn simple tasks—like going to the grocery store or sitting in a classroom—into overwhelming experiences, leaving both you and your child feeling frustrated.

We offer training to help you create sensory-friendly environments, whether at home, in school, or in public spaces.

From reducing harsh lighting and noise levels to introducing calming tools like weighted blankets or sensory toys, we provide practical solutions that can make a big difference. We also guide you on how to advocate for sensory accommodations in schools and public settings, ensuring your child can feel more comfortable and less overwhelmed.

By understanding your child’s sensory triggers and finding creative ways to manage them, you can help make everyday life a little easier.

One important component of first aid at work is "Immediate Response to Emergencies," which focuses on giving people the information and abilities they need to react quickly and efficiently to emergencies in the workplace.

Why is immediate response is so vital:

Time-Critical Situations:
In many emergency situations, time is of the essence. Immediate response can make a significant difference in outcomes, especially in cases of cardiac arrest, severe bleeding, or respiratory distress. First aid training provides individuals with the ability to assess situations rapidly and take prompt action.
