First Aid Training – Time is running out!

Where does first aid training courses come on your list?

Is first aid training courses a must-do, a nice to do, or a going to do on your list of priorities?

If you have staff whose first aid certificates have expired or are getting close to expiring, you need to make it a priority, as you only one month’s grace before you have to complete the full First Aid Course rather than the two Re-qualification or not first aid compliant.

As an employer, you have a duty of care to make sure you respond promptly to an employee who hurts themselves or becomes ill. Depending on the size and nature of your business, it may be a legal requirement to have one or more trained first aiders. Knowing how to respond calmly and effectively in a crisis, is a valuable skill for everyone to have.

When you work in an office, it is easy to be complacent and think that accidents never happen. But if you saw someone choking on a sandwich or get scalded by a hot drink, then you might think again.

You can’t put a price on saving a life

Slips and trips can happen anywhere and account for a huge proportion of workplace injuries. Something like 47% of all back injuries are caused in the workplace through poor manual handling practices. Of course, in industrial settings, the risk of accidents rises steeply.

Accidents and emergencies don’t just happen at work. Driving is one of the most dangerous things we do every day and if you have ever been in a car crash you will appreciate the importance of having someone quickly on the scene who knows first aid. Likewise, at home, if you have children, being able to save someone from drowning, choking or stopping breathing is a wonderfully-reassuring skill to have.

We tailor our training to suit your needs

Here at HMB Training Services, we offer a one-day Emergency First Aid course and a more comprehensive three-day course. These can be delivered at your premises or at a location of your choosing. Each course leads to a recognised qualification which is valid for three years.

We don’t just deliver the same off-the-shelf package to everyone though. Whilst the focus may be on saving lives in the workplace, if you are the parent of a young child, for example, we will include training on how to give CPR to a baby and child. It is important to us that you have the appropriate skills and knowledge to respond in any given situation. (We also think this makes us stand out from the competition!)

We believe everyone should be able to access our courses and happily adapt our training methods to suit all learners.  Our great customer reviews are a testament to our flexible and friendly approach.

Not investing in first aid training could be a false economy

The one-day emergency first aid course costs £70 per person and the three-day course is £160 per person.

If you have a workplace with between one and twenty-five employees in a low-risk industry, then you should have one trained first aider. Although it makes sense to have more than one to allow for absences and holidays. In a higher risk engineering company, for example, you need one first aider for every 5 employees. Failure to comply with the appropriate Health and Safety legislation can result in significant fines. The cost of being able to stop someone bleeding to death or giving life-saving CPR, however, is priceless.

HMB Training Services covers a wide geographical area including Leek, Cheadle, Wolverhampton, Solihull and Gloucester. For further details about our first aid training services email info@hmbtrainingservices.co.uk
